Two city men were indicted last week in connection with the murder of Chevin Burgess.
Joeryan Foreman, 20, and Calier Samad, 27, were each indicted on charges of felony murder, robbery, related weapons offenses and aggravated arson. Samad is also charged with first-degree murder.
Around 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 4, police were dispatched to investigate a burning car. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, police say, they found Burgess’ body inside the vehicle.
A medical examiner determined Burgess’ manner of death to be a homicide, and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Prosecutors say his death was the result of a robbery scheme conducted by Foreman and Samad, and that they drove his body to the 100 block of Hart Avenue, doused the car with gasoline and set it on fire.
Foreman remains in jail on $600,000 bail. Samad remains in jail on $1 million bail.
