Authorities have identified the man gunned down in the city’s East Ward on Saturday.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said the victim was Keyon Shontel Wade, 39, of Ewing. He was reported by police officials on Saturday as being a 43-year-old city man. Wade would have been 40 in April based upon information from the prosecutor’s office. He was shot in front of a city liquor store located at Walnut Avenue and Chambers Street around 12:40 p.m. Wade was pronounced dead at Capital Health Regional Medical Center at 1:07 p.m.
Earlier in the week, another man was shot in the chest in the vicinity of the same Wilbur Section liquor store. The shooting left the man in critical condition and the incident remains under investigation.
Authorities have not indicated what the motive in the Wade’s killing may have been or if they have a suspect.
In addition to Saturday’s homicide two other non-fatal shootings remain under investigation.
One man was shot multiple times just before 5 a.m. at the Shell gas station at Greenwood Avenue and Chambers Street, just blocks from the homicide. A third shooting took place around 6:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Reservoir Street. In that incident, police said that a 16-year-old was shot numerous times and taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was last reported to have non-life threatening injuries.
Saturday’s murder is being investigated by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.
